There was a lot pleasure in our a part of northern France within the final couple of weeks.
First, the Tour de France whizzed straight previous the highest of the little hill that results in our village! Secondly, the village is holding its annual “illuminations” subsequent weekend and there are shiny posters caught to phone poles all through the world selling this “magical evening” with photographs of an occasion that appears prefer it wouldn’t be misplaced in a Disney park. Nevertheless I’m a veteran of the native “illuminations” and know that the magic comes from everybody having a good time ooh’ing and ah’ing at sculptures produced from straw and folks ‘lighting up’ their entrance gardens and the village petanque pitch with twinkling Christmas lights (would possibly as effectively get greater than every year use from them!), and in Madame Bernadette’s backyard – a random assortment of plastic animals from cows and sheep to penguins and tigers, alongside a show of grinning gnomes that all the time attracts an admiring crowd. And eventually it’s Bastille Day (or 14th July because the French name it) subsequent week – a nationwide vacation and but extra partying, although this time it is going to be throughout France.
