In certainly one of my favourite areas throughout Milan Design Week, on the 5Vie headquarters on Through Cesare Correnti, Beni Rugs offered Intersection a brand new assortment of rugs designed by Paris and Marrakech-based structure agency Studio KO. Intersection is an ode to reminiscence, advised via ten motifs impressed by the quiet poetry of on a regular basis relics — redacted paperwork, handwritten notes, diaries, and light gestures in ink. The gathering explores how we write, protect, and share our lives, each intimately and collectively. In a method, it turns reminiscence into one thing tactile. Phrases grow to be patterns, ink turns into wool.
From Marrakech, Rabat, and Casablanca to Milan, Studio KO’s first designs for Beni Rugs translate the language of reminiscence into meticulously handcrafted Moroccan carpets. It’s an exquisite distinction: industrial-age artefacts remodeled via one of many world’s most conventional weaving strategies. That is Beni’s most formidable challenge so far, each technically, with the introduction of recent rug constructions, and conceptually, diving into one of the vital common themes of all: the passage of time.
